What is Osteopathy?

Although osteopaths treat many conditions, most people think of us as ‘back specialists’. It’s true to say that back pain is what many osteopaths treat a lot of the time, but we are very good at helping all manner of pain related conditions. Osteopathy can help the following conditions:

Low Back Pain

Neck Pain

Shoulder Pain

Leg and Arm Pain

Sciatica

Frozen Shoulder Problems

Arthritic Pains

Muscle & Tendon Pain & Fatigue

Elbow, Wrist, Knee & Hip Pains

Headaches, related to Stress & Tension

Irritable Bowel related to Stress & Tension

Pregnancy Pains

Other causes of pain Osteopathy can help with

Other causes of pain can be examined and possibly relieved, but you would need to speak with us to find out what we may be able to do to help.

Osteopathic treatment does not only target symptoms, but treats the parts of the body that have caused the symptoms.

Osteopathic approach

Osteopaths have a holistic approach and believe that your whole body will work well if your body is in good structural balance, Imagine, for example, a car that has one of its front wheels not quite pointing straight. It may run well for a while, but after only a few thousand miles, the tyre will wear out.

Osteopathy - Baks Osteopathy Maidstone

You can apply this example to the human body, which is why it is so important to keep the body in good balance, to avoid excess wear and tear.  This is why having treatment from youth to old age is important in helping to reduce the timing for the onset of degeneration in the spine and areas such as knees, hips and ankles.

Osteopathic technique

Here at Baks Osteopathy, we use a wide range of techniques, including joint mobilisation, massage, cranial techniques (sometimes referred to as ‘cranial osteopathy’) and other less well known, yet effective techniques.
This breadth of knowledge & technique approach allows us to focus on every patient’s precise needs and tailor the treatment to suit.
Osteopaths can assess and treat people of any age from the elderly to the newborn and from pregnant women to sports people.
