What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Watch this short video & learn a bit about Craniosacral Therapy.

Craniosacral Therapy or Cranial Osteopathy? – What can they help?

Craniosacral Therapists (depending upon where they were trained) & Cranial Osteopaths tend to treat similar problems. These will be similar to what an Osteopath may encounter & help people with in clinic.

These things include:

Low Back Pain

Neck Pain

Shoulder Pain

Sciatica & ‘trapped’ nerves

General joint pains

Headaches, related to Stress & Tension

Irritable Bowel related to Stress & Tension

Pregnancy Pains

Other causes of pain can be examined & possibly relieved. But you would need to speak with us to find out what we may be able to do to help.

Craniosacral Therapy or Cranial Osteopathy? – What’s the difference?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) & Cranial Osteopathy (CO) utilise a similar mechanism of treatment. That being, very small, almost imperceptible movements in the joint, muscle & ligamentous tissues of the body. These movements are precise & minute, designed to allow the body to realign at its own pace. They are mediated & controlled by the practitioner using a fine touch palpation. The main difference between a CST & a CO is their knowledge of anatomy, physiology & their approach to a treatment plan & that a Cranial Osteopath is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) in the U.K.

Our practitioners were both trained in Cranial Osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy. Phil Wise, (GOsC registered) & Svetlana Wise who has chosen to not register with the GOsC. Both are very capable of helping you with your pain relief needs.

Craniosacral Therapists & Cranial Osteopaths have a holistic approach & believe that your whole body will work well if your body is in good structural balance.

An analogy

Imagine, for example, a car that has one of its front wheels not quite pointing straight. It may run well enough for you to drive for a while, but after only a few thousand miles, the tyre will wear out.

You can apply this analogy to the human body, which is why it is so important to keep the body in good balance, to avoid excess wear and tear.  This is why having treatment from youth to old age is important in helping to reduce the timing for the onset of degeneration in the spine & areas such as knees, hips & ankles.

Here at Baks Osteopathy, we use a wide range of Cranial techniques to focus on every patient’s precise needs & tailor the treatment to suit each individual.
Craniosacral Therapists & Cranial Osteopaths can assess & treat people of any age from the older generation to the newborn & from pregnant women to sports people.

“93.2% of osteopathic patients felt that their experience of osteopathy was very good.”

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures adult data, 2017
