Baks Osteopathy recommended resources to aid recovery & protect future health
Whilst working in clinic, I am forever recommending people to search for items on the internet which will help them with their pain related problem. Items such as a heel raise (for leg length discrepancies which can lead to back and neck pain), or a spiky ball to help with muscle tension relief. The list goes on and sometimes it is difficult for me to explain to the patient what it is that they need. Often, it’s even more difficult for the patient to comprehend what on Earth I am talking about. This page helps disperse the confusion and aids clarity. I can now simply suggest that you visit this page and purchase the item that I have recommended to you in clinic.
Below is a list of the recommended products which (if used appropriately) are likely to help speed up your recovery. I’ve taken the time to have a good look around and I’ve found that the Amazon website seems to provide all the products that I would recommend at a fair price. They are all delivered to your door, often free of charge.
Please note that Amazon pay me a (very) small commission for these recommendations and that this comes out of their profit, it is not added to the price you pay. Please help support our dedication to this page, in providing you with a list of recommended products to improve your health.
Massage Ball Set: smooth & spiky
These balls allow you to administer some self help relief when I am not available. They may also be useful when used as advised by me, to help soften particularly tight areas of muscle tension. This can help progress treatment faster, speeding up your recovery.
Resistance Bands Set x 5
Sometimes the problem is not tension, but a lack of it. If you’re in need of building some muscle tone in very specific muscle groups, then you may need to complete very specific muscle exercises which will allow you to self correct the imbalance in muscular tensions that are leading to your pain. This form of self help has been proven to speed up recovery in many different pain related scenarios.
Wrist & Ankle Weights: Fully Adjustable
These weights are a useful addition to any exercise regime which you are advised to do as a part of your recovery program. They are also fully adjustable so you can add and remove weight as required, making it easy for you to graduate your training without overstraining yourself with weights that may be too heavy.
VALSOLE Orthotic Insole: Full Size (pair)
Full size orthotic insoles with arch support for those who have flat feet and need to have the inner arch supported in order to change the balance of the pelvis and so change the curve in the spine to relieve spinal & limb pains.
Orthotic Insole: 3/4 Size (pair)
3/4 size orthotic insoles with arch support for those who have flat feet and need to have the inner arch supported in order to change the balance of the pelvis and so change the curve in the spine to relieve spinal & limb pains. 3/4 size may be better for certain shoe types of your choice.
Heel Lift: for leg length discrepancies
Sometimes, the people I see in clinic have one leg which is longer than the other one. This is usually a congenital problem (they were born with it), but it can sometimes occur after a fracture of a leg bone or a replacement joint in the lower extremity. This heel raise helps to take the strain out of the spine by providing balance to the body again. This particular one is fully adjustable.
Cork Heel Lift: for leg length discrepancies
Different style as listed above and is not adjustable. It is however more stylish for open shoe use.
Plantar Fasciitis Insoles for Heel Pain
Plantar Fasciitis: The air cushioning and arch support in ‘Zoom AIR’ insoles can help alleviate the heel pain associated with plantar fasciitis. By providing shock absorption and better foot alignment, they reduce stress on the plantar fascia. The insoles are equipped with air cushioning that provides excellent shock absorption and reduces impact on the feet.
Laptop stand
With the increased amount of people now working from home, I felt it prudent to insert this laptop stand (which I use in my clinic) and can heartily recommend.
I commonly see people with neck, shoulder and lower back pain related issues which are largely due to being slumped over a laptop, rather than using a laptop riser stand and a separate keyboard and mouse.
Recommendations for the mouse and keyboard are varied depending upon your preference and the computer you use. I use Apple because I have an Apple computer for example. But truthfully you can use whatever one you like. I’ve included some examples of what I like below.
Recommended keyboard & mouse
For those of you who are Apple aficionados, you’re probably head straight to the Apple online store, which is fair enough.
But for those of you who like the look and feel of an Apple keyboard, but don’t like the price tag, maybe try this keyboard and mouse combo. It has everything you need for both Apple Mac & Microsoft Windows computers.
